UPSCL Endgame Lecture Series
Now available on one CD
(+ interface to view lectures – and to practice chess via internet!!)

To compliment the Opening 8 (2nd edition) and Some Middle Game Considerations texts (written by UPSCL President, Steve Cohen), the "third part of the series," the complete UPSCL endgames curriculum is now available on one CD!!

There's over 74 hours* of viewing material comprising a methodical approach to common endgame situations – these are the same lectures that were presented "live" between 1998-2000 at the internet chess club, augmented with minor-pieces'- (i.e., Knights & Bishops), and Queens-endings as well – all on one CD!

Chess history is full of examples from all levels of play where one player made a "simple" endgame mistake, turning what should have been an "easy win" into a draw – or worse (and all that hard work creating the "won game" being lost)!   There are even more examples (again, from all levels of play) where a player had significant a winning advantage in the middlegame, yet failed to convert that advantage upon entering and/or conducting the endgame stage.   Certainly, if a player doesn't know what is "key" in the endgame, it is that much harder to plan to get to a "key position," not to mention to know the "easiest way" to "control" matters once such a position is reached.   However, by having a "firm" grasp of endgame fundamentals, not only does that improve a player's ability in the endgame – knowing what to do, and what to avoid, once that stage of the game is reached – also, a player's middlegame abilities are improved, by better understanding when to steer the game into a "winning endgame" (and what type of a position to plan to reach once there, in addition to how to conduct the game once there – to force about a decisive result), as well as understanding better when to stay in the middlegame until a "winning endgame position" can be "forced" (or, at least know what to do to avoid a loss).

By following the lessons contained on this CD, you will learn the fundamentals of many "key positions," and important endgame strategies and methods for common situations in numerous Pawn-endings, Minor Pieces' endings (including BvN, NvN, BvB, Bishops of Opposite Colors, and Bishop-pair situations), Rook-endings and Queen-endings!   Easy-to-follow lessons make learning fun as you discover the "Rule of the Triangle," "Rule of the Square," the "4 methods" of Rv.P; about direct, distant and oblique opposition (and how to use it); related squares; the differences between Bishops and Knights (and when one is better than the other); how to draw with a Pawn v. a Queen (and the "winning area"); and, much, much more!

As you can see from the above table, there are plenty of lessons to learn from, all of which follow the step-by-step approach of "reinforced learning" (i.e., earlier lessons help you better to understand what comes up in later lessons, etc.) that UPSCL instruction is well-known for providing (most lessons are about 10-20min in length).   Also, you can view these lessons at your own pace (including the speed at which the lessons are given), with many opportunities to "test" your understanding of the material via "pauses" during most of the lessons – at critical moments – for you to answer "test" questions (i.e., what you think is the next best move)!   Furthermore, the interface provides a nice, large diagram and text-display to make learning pleasant and easy!!

(above is from one of the K+Ps lectures on related squares ("part 2"))

In addition, the interface used to view the endgame lessons can also be used to connect, via the internet, to the Internet Chess Club for use to practice** chess (and what you've learned – when you get to endgame positions). Special features of the chess-playing interface include:

• Auto-saving of games (and can review games w/o being connected to internet)!

• Pre-move (with intelligence features)!!

• Move speedometer and speed graphs for use in 1 0 (i.e., lightning-chess) games!!

• History of session (i.e., results by color, time logged on, current win/loss streak)!

• Avoid annoying "ROBOadmin" tells/shouts as guest!

• Can use with "member account" if you are a member of ICC!

• Easy challenge postings/"acceptings"!

• Avoid auto-log-off for 60-min. idle-time!

... and more!

(**NOTE -- "practice chess via internet" aspect of interface is "free" gift/bonus for acquiring the endgames-lessons CD)

So, how much does this great CD cost?

For only a $150 donation to the UPSCL – a not-for-profit organization – this great learning program can be yours as our thank you gift for your support!   This works out to about $2 per hour – and, if you consider the CD contains more material than would be covered in a year's worth of private lessons, you'd realize that $150 for more than a year's worth of private lessons is indeed a great bargain (even without the chess-playing/practice aspect of the interface)!!!

So, how can you order this wonderful product?

By sending a check in the amount of $150 ($160 if you need a copy mailed to you, to cover shipping & handling) made payable to the "UPSCL" to:
